5G subsidy scheme while promoting early deployment of
5G applications in Hong Kong
Hong Kong, 8 June 2020 - 3 Hong Kong, the mobile arm of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215), will provide all-round support to facilitate local enterprises applying for the government's Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G so as to encourage enterprises to deploy 5G applications early, thereby accelerating the development of the 5G ecosystem in Hong Kong.
Diverse applications tailored to specific industries
3 Hong Kong launched 5G service, complemented with an optical-fibre backhaul network with up to 10Gbps transmission rate, in April. Its 5G service comes complete with ultra-fast speed and super-low latency. To facilitate enterprises' applications for the subsidy, the operator has tailored 5G corporate solutions in the following five major areas to suit specific industries and their unique requirements.
| 1. 4K Live Broadcast | The service live streams smooth and ultra high-definition (HD) real-time indoor and outdoor events via a 5G network. It can be applied to press conferences, roadshows, sporting events and concerts. |
| 2. Robotics | Equipped with an automatic navigation function and a 360° camera, the service enables a robot to operate automatically on its own or be remotely controlled. HD images and videos captured by the camera are transmitted on a 5G network. The service can be applied to shopping malls, exhibition centres and public facilities such as hospitals, schools and transportation hubs. |
| 3. Video Surveillance | The service, combining artificial intelligence and cloud technology in one solution, can perform a security function throughout car parks and large capacity venues by capturing real-time images and videos of designated scenarios requiring immediate attention via a 5G network. |
| 4. Environmental IoT | Data related to a specific environment is monitored and analysed 24/7. Alerts are sent automatically if unusual data is detected. This service is particularly useful for building and public facility management. |
| 5. Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality | The service brings a lifelike experience and enables users to immerse in virtual tours of venues or product trials riding on 5G strengths such as high speed and low latency. It is suitable for exhibition centres and the retail industry. |
One-stop support for enterprises applying for the subsidy
3 Hong Kong has formed a dedicated team to tailor innovative 5G solutions with cross-sectoral synergy to specific industries and their unique requirements. The team will help interested enterprises create a project implementation schedule and an investment budget. Extension of 5G coverage in certain areas can be catered for in case it is required to meet the requirements of the subsidy scheme. Free consultation service on the deployment of 5G technology and help with the submission of applications are also available.

The Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G is open for application until 30 November. Applicable enterprises will be subsidised 50% of the actual cost directly relevant to the deployment of 5G technology, subject to a cap of HK$500,000.
