3 Hong Kong facilitates HK Electric's Advanced Metering Infrastructure scheme while helping users understand electricity consumption habits and conserve energy with ease

Hong Kong, 28 May 2020 - 3 Hong Kong, the mobile arm of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215), today announced provision of secure and reliable connectivity and data transmission services to serve HK Electric's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) scheme, thereby supporting Hong Kong's development as a smart city.

Help customers better understand electricity consumption habits and improve energy efficiency
Customers of HK Electric will soon be able to access more detailed electricity consumption data online or on a mobile app anytime anywhere. With better understanding of electricity consumption habits and patterns, they can optimise energy use and contribute to the betterment of the environment by taking corresponding measures.

Mobile VPN with focuses on five "S" enables real-time data transmission
The AMI scheme will benefit from 3 Hong Kong's dedicated Mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) which focuses on five "S", including "Simple, Secure, Scalable, Smart and Serviceable". The Mobile VPN will facilitate the AMI scheme which commenced in April and will be implemented in phases.

Simple - Network configuration of the smart meter network is simple.

Secure - A secure connection is provided between smart meters and HK Electric's information systems via 3 Hong Kong's carrier-grade mobile VPN.

Scalable - The smart meter network can be extended to business and residential points on Hong Kong Island and the Islands district.

Smart - The data network service is smart enough to divert traffic from one active path to another in case of instability to maximise network resilience and ensure reliable and smooth connectivity.

Serviceable - Real-time monitoring of the Mobile VPN by 3 Hong Kong's Network Operation Centre ensures smooth and round-the-clock services.
