in the 1.9 - 2.2GHz band
in accordance with bidding target and strategy
HONG KONG, 8 December 2014 - Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH or the "Group"; stock code: 215) today announced acquisition of the 9.8MHz of paired spectrum.
A bid from Hutchison Telephone Company Limited (HTCL), an HTHKH subsidiary, was successful in a 1.9 - 2.2GHz band radio spectrum auction officiated by the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA), and involved a utilisation fee of HK$470.4 million. The effective period runs for 15 years, commencing 22 October 2016.
Peter Wong, HTHKH Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director, said: "We set a bidding target and strategy for the 1.9 - 2.2GHz band radio spectrum auction and are delighted with the result. We now have a total of 29.6MHz of paired spectrum in the 1.9 - 2.2GHz band, including the 19.8MHz of paired spectrum obtained by exercising a right of first refusal offered by OFCA. Our win demonstrates a successful bidding strategy that has enabled us to acquire spectrum at a floor price."
He added: "This allows us to continue providing high-quality 3G services, while progressing our plan to re-farm spectrum to open up LTE and LTE-A services. The result will be a faster and smoother mobile communications service for our customers."
The Group will continue enhancing network capacity and quality to satisfy 4G LTE requirements among customers over the next few years. For example, bandwidth for 4G LTE will be enhanced by deployment of a TDD-LTE network in the 2300MHz spectrum.
