Trailwalker 2014 challenge to raise funds for charity
HONG KONG, 17 November 2014 - As well as working relentlessly on enhancing and optimising its networks, Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH or the Group; stock code: 215) always finds time to support a range of charity events. In this regard, staff members took part in Oxfam Trailwalker 2014 from 14 to 16 November, raising cash to help fund alleviation of poverty and emergency relief projects worldwide.
Rising to the challenge in a spirit of teamwork
Drawing on a strong collegial spirit and seizing the opportunity to challenge themselves, employees formed teams that were required to complete the 100km MacLehose Trail within a designated period of time. Mutual support, encouragement and preparatory training came to the fore when the trekkers needed to overcome formidable obstacles while crossing mountains and following wilderness trails. One team finished the competition in an impressive 16 hours, 37 minutes and 57 seconds.
Caring for the community
The Group is actively engaged in serving those less fortunate in the community. In fact, employees are encouraged to take part in voluntary work, in tune with the keen sense of social responsibility that permeates the HTHKH corporate culture. Other events supported by the Group have included a foodstuff donation initiative organised in conjunction with a community food bank. In addition, the Lo-Yau-Kee Handsets and Monthly Service Plans Donation Programme was launched by HTHKH in 2010 so that senior citizens could enjoy free elderly-friendly handsets along with a waiver of service fee.
And just last month, the Group launched a donation matching programme as a way of celebrating 30 years' service to Hong Kong. Donations from staff were matched dollar-fordollar by the company, resulting in a total of HK$483,000 being evenly shared among eight charitable organisations. These play a variety of roles in the community and involve specialisms such as education, alleviation of poverty, medical and rehabilitation services and environmental protection.
