HTHK spreads winter cheer with
donations of home-grown harvests and home visits
Farming for Charity

Hong Kong, 18 December 2024 - Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited (HTHK) yesterday organised a charitable initative titled "Farming for Charity" which featured organic vegetable donations and home visits.

The Company joined hands with Grow Something (GS), a social enterprise dedicated to urban organic farming, to grow vegetables on the rooftop of HTHK's headquarters, and at GS's certified organic farm in Kam Tin starting from November. The goal was to grow approximately 50 kg of vegetables to be donated to Manna, a non-profit organisation focused on alleviating poverty through dining services. These vegetables were used to prepare meal boxes and were also delivered to the community along with other gift packs, spreading festive blessings ahead of the Winter Solstice.

Driving sustainable development
Kenny Koo, Executive Director and CEO of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited, said: "Adhering to our mission of sustainable development, we are committed to creating long-term value for stakeholders. Community involvement is a crucial aspect of corporate and social sustainability. We aim to promote volunteerism among our staff members and strengthen community ties by encouraging them to share their home-grown autumn/winter harvests with the underprivileged and through home visits."

Encourage staff to take part in volunteer services
HTHK volunteers harvested vegetables at VeggieLab, the company's rooftop organic farm, yesterday morning. Together with the harvest from Grow Something's farm, more than 60kg of organic vegetables were donated to Manna during the vegetable donation ceremony. Some of the vegetables were used to prepare meal boxes, while others were freshly delivered to the needy during home visits in the afternoon.

Arranged by Manna, the HTHK volunteer team paid home visits to the elderly in Kwun Tong. They also distributed organic vegetables and gift packs at the organisation's community canteen, spreading festive cheer ahead of the Winter Solstice.

Volunteers also reminded the elderly to be cautious of online and SMS scams, advising them not to reveal person data to strangers or click on suspicious links in messages.

Launched in 2021, VeggieLab is HTHK's organic farming project located on the rooftop of its headquarters. This initiative creates green space, promotes environmental greening and reduces carbon emissions, all while supporting the work-life balance of staff members. Employees can enjoy nature and the joys of farming during their workday.
