Hong Kong's first 5G live broadcasting concert from a cruise ship at sea
Hong Kong, 12 June 2024 - Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited (HTHK) received the Award for Arts Sponsorship at the 18th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
The award was for its "Resorts World One 5G Live Broadcasting" - Hong Kong's first 5G live broadcasting concert from a cruise ship at sea, which was presented in collaboration with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Resorts World Cruises in 2023. This award acknowledges the distinctive role of HTHK in driving the development of art tech in Hong Kong through its robust and reliable network, earning widespread recognition and appreciation from various sectors.

"Resorts World One" set sail to carry passengers to experience a unique journey last March as Hong Kong gradually resumed to normal after the pandemic. To unite the community and accelerate the revival of Hong Kong's tourism, HTHK collaborated with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Resorts World Cruises to present the "Resorts World One 5G Live Broadcasting" - Hong Kong's first-ever 5G live broadcasting concert from a cruise ship, bringing visual and audio enjoyment to global audiences and warming people's hearts with music.

Overcoming various challenges to turn the impossible into the possible
It is extremely difficult to conduct live broadcasting from a cruise ship at sea. Ever-changing weather, the 'non-fixed' sailing route of the cruise ship and the interference of base station signals along both sides of Victoria Harbour added considerable variables to the live broadcasting. HTHK's professional team repeatedly conducted network trials and carefully adjusted the angles of base station antennas, eventually meeting the challenges and achieving a stable and smooth 5G live broadcasting from a 13-story cruise ship at sea. In addition to viewing the live concert at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, the public could also enjoy in real-time the spectacular music performance on online platforms.
