Hong Kong, 18 January 2022 - Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215) organised the Office Waste Paper Collection and Recycling Competition at the end of 2021 to encourage various departments to collect waste paper to promote environmental protection. This is part of a long-standing commitment by HTHKH to sustainable development. Just two months after the Competition began, HTHKH has amassed more than 11 tonnes (11,790 kg) of waste paper for reuse or recycling.
HTHKH encourages employees and business partners to join hands in promoting environmental protection, environmental workplace management and adopting control measures to minimise waste at source. The Competition collected a variety of waste paper including cardboards, newspapers and office paper, which have been handed to recyclers for recycling, reducing the burden on landfills and environmental pollution. According to the Environmental Protection Department's Hong Kong Waste Reduction website, it takes 17 trees and 1,500 litres of fuel to produce one tonne of paper (i.e. 1,000 kg); which means that HTHKH saved the equivalent of more than 170 trees and over 15,000 litres of fuel through this programme.
HTHKH has always taken a high priority in its corporate social responsibility. The Company launched the Recycling of Handsets and Accessories Programme in 2012 to encourage mobile users to hand in old handsets and accessories for recycling. It also supported the Computer Recycling Programme organised by the Environmental Protection Department. Another initiative is a large-scale "Go Paperless" campaign that encourages customers to opt for electronic billing via email, SMS or the My3 app to view e-billing information. Recently, HTHKH also collaborated with CASETiFY to place a RECASETiFY recycling box at the 3Supreme flagship store in Causeway Bay to encourage customers to hand in old phone cases for recycling.
HTHKH has won a succession of environmental protection awards and energy management certificates from green organisations, as well as government departments. This demonstrates the recognition by the local and global community of its ongoing efforts to protect the environment and save energy. Accolades have included:
