Computer Recycling Programme by collecting
reusable electronic equipment amounting to hundreds of units
HONG KONG - 13 APRIL 2016 - Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH or the Group; stock code: 215) demonstrated a keen sense of community spirit by contributing to the Computer Recycling Programme run by the Hong Kong SAR Government's Environmental Protection Department.
In four months alone, HTHKH amassed more than 300 units of recyclable electronic equipment when replacing staff computers and associated equipment - and items fit for reuse have since been donated to people in need.
The Computer Recycling Programme collected a variety of equipment - such as desktop PCs, laptops, LCD/CRT monitors, printers, scanners and accessories - to be passed to designated professionals for restoration and recycling. Many refurbished computers have been handed to underprivileged members of society by charitable organisations. Computers beyond hope were dismantled, so useful parts and materials could be recycled, rather than wasted.
HTHKH demonstrates a high level of corporate social responsibility. A prime example is our "Recycling of Handsets & Accessories" programme, which was established in 2012 to encourage mobile users to hand-in old handsets and accessories for recycling. Another example is a large-scale "Go Paperless" campaign that encourages customers to opt for electronic billing via email or SMS.
HTHKH has won a succession of environmental protection awards and energy management certificates from green organisations, as well as government departments. This illustrates how the efforts HTHKH channels into protecting the environment and saving energy are appreciated by society.
Accolades have included the "Green Office label" and "Better World Company Label" awarded by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals - Green Office Awards Labelling Scheme. Other recognition has featured "Energywi$e" and "Wastewi$e" honours in the Hong Kong Green Organisation Certificate scheme, plus accreditation with ISO 50001 Energy Management System Certification and Good Class in Indoor Air Quality Certificate.
